Albany Budget Signals End of Landfill Battle

When Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan unveiled her 2015 budget for the city on Wednesday, she closed the book on a decades-long saga in a far smaller Hudson River community 17 miles to the south.

Tucked into her $176 million budget was a revenue estimate of $5 million for the anticipated sale of a plot of land in Coeymans to the state Department of Environmental Conservation.

If that sale goes through — nothing has been signed yet — it would definitively scuttle a controversial plan for Albany to use the site as a landfill.
