Texas Bills Aim to Keep E-Waste Out of Landfills

Concerned about safety hazards of electronic waste, Democratic lawmakers are recycling legislation from last session that aims to curb disposal of computers and equipment in landfills.

Rep. Mary González,D-El Paso, filed House Bill 87, which would require large computer retailers to accept old electronics for recycling, while a bill by Rep. Joe Farias, D-San Antonio, would ban computer equipment from landfills or incinerators.

Neither bill made it to the floor of the House last session, but the lawmakers are hoping this session will be different.
