Central Maui will be getting a permanent disposal site for wildfire debris and a large landfill expansion following a purchase by the county.

Maui County will pay $4 million to secure about 79 acres of space in central Maui which is four times the amount of land being used for the landfill.

“The acquisition of these properties enables us to secure a final disposal site for the wildfire debris and also provides years of additional landfill capacity, strengthening our community’s resilience,” Mayor Richard Bissen said.
