Aldi has launched its latest sustainability initiative: a new line of beers crafted from food waste, exclusive to the grocery store.
The beers, the Toast Brewing Round Session IPA and Freedom Brewing Misfits Summer Fruits Beer are being launched under Aldi’s The Hop Foundry brand. The former has been brewed with 4,000 loaves of Aldi’s tiger bread, achieving a 5% lower carbon footprint than beer brewed with all malt and the latter is a vegan-friendly brew made from a variety of berries, saving almost a ton of fruit from going to waste.
“We know our shoppers are increasingly passionate about sustainability and are looking for ways to make a difference when shopping. By partnering with incredible innovators, we’re transforming surplus food into delicious, high-quality products that our customers can feel good about buying – all at Aldi’s everyday amazing prices,” said Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi UK.
