New South Wales (NSW) government has stressed that the Sydney, Australia landfill is facing capacity and that new waste solutions needs to be decided on as soon as possible.

The issue was explained at the NSW Circuit Economy Summit in Sydney earlier this week. Penny Sharpe, Environment Minister, and Tony Chappel, NSW Environment Protection Authority CEO hosted the event and spoke about how if a new solution isn’t decided on, the Greater Sydney Landfill would be at capacity by 2030.

"We are at a point that if we don't take urgent action, our red bins won't be able to be collected in a few years," Sharpe said.

Residents are facing higher costs for disposing of waste, as it would need to be transported to regional areas far away for disposal, if new waste and recycling solutions aren’t sorted.
