Starting this week, a statewide program in Vermont will kick off, encouraging residents to cut back on food scraps and composting needs.

Starting this week, a statewide program in Vermont will kick off, encouraging residents to cut back on food scraps and composting needs.

While Vermont residents have kept food scraps out of trash and landfills, the Department of Environmental Conservation commissioner says that limiting food scraps in general is better than composting. The department asks residents to consider small changes to their food tendencies, like keeping leftovers in clear containers and checking their fridges before shopping.

Those who participate in the program will be able to track their food waste and learn ways to cut down on food scraps.
