During the Carbon Capture Conference in Edmonton, it was announced that the Alberta government would grant millions in funding for a facility to turn waste into energy.

The facility will use carbon capture to transform municipal solid waste into electricity. The Alberta government has announced it will provide $2.8 million in funding to the facility which comes from Emissions Reduction Alberta, a fund that industry players pay into to offset their emissions.

“The study is an important first step to realizing a large-scale municipal waste-to-energy facility with carbon capture and storage,” Emissions Reduction Alberta CEO Justin Riemer said in a news release. “This project not only reduces emissions but also sets a new standard for how we provide clean, reliable energy from waste destined for landfills.”
