Mega retailer Walmart is partnering with Denali, a specialty waste and environmental services company, to divert food waste.

Walmart will be utilizing Denali’s “de-packaging” technology which will remove food from packaging that is headed for the trash. The collected food will be converted into animal feed, used to compost, or converted to energy.

This new solution for Walmart has made its way into 16 markets, including Houston, Dallas, Philadelphia, Phoenix, and Washington D.C. A nationwide rollout is expected in 2025.
