Allied Waste announces gas-to-energy project

Allied Waste Industries Inc., Phoenix, Ariz., has announced the ground breaking of its newest gas-to-energy project in Jefferson City, Mo. The project, in conjunction with the Ameresco, Inc., Columbia Water & Light and the state, will reportedly produce approximately 3.2 megawatts of electricity from the landfill’s trapped methane gas.

In addition, heat from the plant’s engines will be used to power two correctional facilities in the area.
