CWM And AETC Enter Into Joint Venture

A national hazardous waste technical services organization has been established by Chemical Waste Management, Oak Brook, Ill., (CWM) and Advanced Environ-mental Technology Corp., Flan-ders, N.J., (AETC).

The joint venture, which will op-erate under the name Advanced Environmental Technical Ser-vices (AETS), reportedly will be-come the nation's largest provider of technical support services for hazardous waste management.

Environmental services provided by CWM and AETC include: handling unknown wastes, managing lab packs and small containers, servicing underground storage tanks and managing in-plant wastes, repackaging and household hazwaste collection.

"The combined capabilities of AETS will give the customer the advantage of dealing with one company," said Pat Payne, chairman of CWM and senior vice president of WMX Technologies Inc.

The merger will combine AETC's information management capabilities with the treatment and disposal capabilities of CWM. The new company will have more than $200 million in revenues and will employ more than 850 people.

"[Providing service from more than 40 locations] will be a powerful combination in today's market where customers are selecting vendors who can lower costs and provide more support as internal environmental resources are downsized," said Bob Landmesser, owner and co-founder of AETC.

"Today's environmental manager have more responsibilities and fewer resources," Payne said.

CWM will own 60 percent of AETS and AETC will own 40 percent of the new company. Bob Landmesser will serve as AETS chairman and Pat McCann, president, CWM Technical Services, will serve as president and chief operating officer of AETS.
