Montauk Energy Capital, Pittsburgh, Pa., today opened a landfill gas recovery facility at the Rumpke Sanitary Landfill in Colerain Township, Ohio. The facility is reportedly the largest such facility in the world. The landfill is owned and operated by Rumpke Consolidated Companies.

According to a press release, the facility has the capacity to process over 15 million standard cubic feet of landfill gas each day. Montauk will process the landfill gas, which will be distributed throughout Duke Energy's local system. The facility will reportedly result in displacing usage of nearly 136 million gallons of gasoline, prevent the usage of an estimated 2.9 million barrels of oil and remove emissions from at least 238,000 vehicles.
