Optimizing content for mobile means that when accessing content via phone or tablet, it is displayed in a format that is easy to read, has uncomplicated options and minimizes the amount of scrolling involved. Both are extremely important when it comes to keeping your audience's attention.

I've have put together guidelines on how you can guarantee that your content is mobile-friendly.

Ensure that nearly any type of content you develop may be viewed on mobile. You want to be able to create a robust user experience for your audience. Let’s be honest, now that we have everything at our fingertips, we don’t have much patience when it comes to loading time. For example, making sure that you have the correctly sized images (no large hi-res photos) will help with your page load speed.

Make sure any videos on your pages are compatible with smart devices. Just like images, making sure that your videos are properly sized for all mobile device screens, including tablets, will help display your videos where you don’t need to scroll left & right regularly to view the video.

Make your content scrollable. Don’t force your audience to click on multiple buttons to get what they are looking for. If you need buttons, make sure they are accessible for the mobile customer to use.

Use a responsive template for everything, including emails. Again, scrolling left, and right to view content is obnoxious. No one has time for that!

Do not use long paragraphs, which can be cumbersome on devices. Remember that people are moving when on mobile – you want to be sure that you can keep their attention and give them exactly what they want… The reason why they clicked on your link!

It’s no secret that mobile devices are dominating the online space. As marketers, it’s our responsibility to keep up with the growing expectations to have an excellent user experience.
