Journalists from ITV News went undercover in the U.K. and exposed how Amazon was throwing out millions of unsold items from its warehouse including, laptops, headphones, books and more.
During the undercover investigation, journalists at a fulfillment center in the U.K. found millions of items thrown in bins marked to be destroyed.
ITV spoke with former employees who said the warehouse had a target of destroying nearly 130,000 items a week and that at least half of those items had never been opened or touched.
Amazon responded to the investigation saying they are “working towards a goal of zero product disposal” and are donating, reselling, and recycling their unsold goods.
“No items are sent to landfill in the U.K. As a last resort, we will send items to energy recovery, but we’re working hard to drive the number of times this happens down,” the company told ITV.
