Another day, another fire at a recycling center, and this time it caused 50 residents in Amenity Way, Morden, UK to evacuate their homes.

The fire happened early Saturday morning at the Suez Recycling Center in Amenity Way. It took roughly 100 firefighters to tackle the flames that spurred from a pile of waste at the center.

“The fire has led to the evacuation of approximately 50 residents from their homes as a precautionary measure. The majority are staying with friends and family,” said a Merton council spokesperson.

“The council has opened a rest center at Eastways Day Centre, Morden, for those who need assistance. Residents should stay away from the Suez Recycling Centre and Garth Road Recycling Centre area to allow the emergency services to manage the situation.”

“Crews worked tirelessly throughout the night in extremely hot conditions to bring this fire under control. Specialist teams are working to monitor air quality in the area,” said Scott Thorpe, Station Commander.
