John’s Disposal Service Inc. and John’s Recycling Inc. of Franksville, Wis. are facing OSHA fines following a maintenance worker suffering severe injuries.

OSHA is fining the company $368,401 for the workplace accident that saw a temporary maintenance worker get severely injured after their jacket sleeve was pulled into an engine as they were servicing a vehicle. OSHA has cited the employer with five repeat, five serious, and three other-than-serious violations. It was determined, by agency investigators, that the company hadn’t ensured energy control procedures were used before the worker serviced the engine.

“A worker suffered severe injuries because their employer failed to implement an effective safety and health program and develop specific energy control procedures to protect workers conducting repairs on vehicles,” said Dustin Schnipke, OSHA’s Milwaukee, Wisconsin, area office director.

In 2023, OSHA cited the company for not providing fall protection on elevated platforms, failing to train forklift operators, and not providing hazard communication training.
