Waste from landfill sites in Ghazipur, Okla, and Bhalaswa, Delhi, will be used to help construct four new roadways in the area.
The National Highways Authority of India promised to use 2 million tons of waste for road construction last year.
“My vision is to use all the waste from Delhi’s three landfills for the construction of roads in the next two years. I was to see no more landfill mountains in Delhi,” said Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways.
The waste will help support the construction of Urban Extension Road (UER) 2 and the third ring road of the capital. Vinai Kumar Saxena, Delhi Lieutenant Governor, talked with Gadkari in December to get him to provide funds for the conversion of waste to roads.
