DEP Investigates Death at Pennsylvania Landfill; Advanced Disposal Conducts Landfill Inspections

The Pennsylvania DEP is investigating the death and Advanced Disposal is conducting visual inspections at all of its landfills.

William Pierce, an Advanced Disposal employee, died last week during a landslide at the Greentree Landfill in Kersey, Pa., and now, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP)  is investigating the death and Advanced Disposal is conducting visual inspections at all of its landfills.

Additionally, DEP officials are taking a closer look at the impact that the landslide had on the environment, and they are trying to figure out how the incident happened.

It's been a week since tragedy struck at the Greentree Landfill in Kersey, but now that the missing worker has been found, the lengthy process of trying to figure out what went wrong has begun.

Officials with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) were originally called to the landfill site on Wednesday, Feb. 8 — the day a landslide of trash and soil took place, burying a worker who was driving a wheeled trash compactor at the site.
