DuPont Building Innovations Unit Achieves Zero Landfill Status
DuPont has achieved zero landfill status with its Building Innovations business.
Through the Wilmington, Del.-based company’s “Drive to Zero” landfill program, none of the unit’s products of Corian and Zodiaq surfaces and Tyvek weatherization systems and geosynthetic textiles went to landfills. The achievement follows three years of effort to reduce the operation’s environmental footprint from 81million pounds of landfill waste annually to zero, DuPont said in a news release.
The Building Innovations operations eliminated landfill waste through a variety of efforts, including using sanding waste as a filler replacement in concrete; using ground-up scrap in new surface products, giving them up to 20-percent recycled content; reselling other crushed scrap for use as a road sub-base material and landscape stone; and reusing shipping pallets or grounding them into animal bedding.
“The Drive to Zero landfill program is good for our business, good for the environment and highly valued by our customers,” said Timothy McCann, president of DuPont Building Innovations. “Working with our supply chain partners to tackle the zero landfill goal was critical to the success of our business in reducing its environmental footprint.”
