A makeshift landfill has been established at the MidFlorida Amphitheatre in Tampa, Fla. that will collect debris from Hurricane Helene ahead of Hurricane Milton making landfall.

City officials have said that the debris is coming from Pinellas County due to current issues at the landfill in the area. Uncleaned debris poses a huge threat to the public and property as hurricane-force winds can turn debris into projectiles. Governor Ron DeSantis has said that debris cleanup will continue until it is no longer safe to be in the area.

“Those debris missions need to be round the clock. You are going to save, I mean potentially save lives because this debris can fly and hit people. But certainly, you are going to have less damage,” DeSantis said.
