American Chemistry Council Partners on Polyethylene Film Recycling in Wisconsin
The American Chemistry Council (ACC) Flexible Film Recycling Group is partnering with several private and public organizations in Wisconsin to increase the recycling of commercial and consumer wraps made from polyethylene film.
The Washington-based ACC is helping to promote the film recycling initiative of the Wrap Recycling Action Program (WRAP), according to a news release. The WRAP program aims to increase the recycling of polyethylene film, including various plastic retail bags, product wraps and stretch film.
The ACC is working with Dunn County, Wis.; the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources; Indianhead Enterprises Inc.; and Trex Co. Inc.
The pilot program is designed to expand the collection infrastructure for businesses and to increase public awareness and participation in plastic film packaging recycling. The program involves rural drop-off locations, an industrial park consolidation point and a collection program run by a vocation center.
Currently, residents are recycling about 400 pounds of plastic bags and wraps every two weeks at seven rural drop-off locations.
