Bellingham, Wash.-based environmental group Stand.earth created a cup monster from dirty Starbucks cups as part of its effort to get Starbucks to make its cups 100 percent recyclable. The group placed the monster outside Starbucks’ annual shareholders meeting on Wednesday at McCaw Hall in Seattle.

In response to Stand.earth’s protest, Starbucks claims its hot cups have contained 10 percent post-consumer fiber since 2006 and that it replaced its hot cup lids this year so they can be recycled in more communities.

Starbucks paper cups are coated with plastic on the inside, which makes the cups not recyclable in many areas.
