New York — A solemn ceremony was held Monday at the Fresh Kills Landfill on Staten Island, N.Y., for the victims of the World Trade Center (WTC) tragedy and to thank workers for their around-the-clock work during the past 10 months.

Relatives of some of the 2,800 victims attended the 25-minute ceremony to mourn and give their thanks. "The people who worked here to recover the remains, who worked here to give some kind of closure … to some extent, this day is a day to say thank you," Mayor Michael Bloomberg told the crowd.
