Making Moves Towards a Sustainable Future with WM's Corey Littlejohn

Everywhere you look, you can find a David versus Goliath type scenario. Whether it’s small-town businesses fighting large corporations, or a community making a push for local government changes, or, sticking closer to the subject matter, a competition against a huge favorite. Well, Corey Littlejohn found himself in that exact situation when his college basketball team, UNC Asheville was matched up against the Number 1 seeded team, Syracuse. And, while it was close, the Davids of the world don’t always win.

But life is full of second chances and the Davids must keep fighting. Lightjohn now joins all of us in the fight to make the world a more sustainable place via the waste industry, and currently, he’s making a positive impact on taking down Wishcycling Goliaths.

Corey Littlejohn is an area collection manager for WM (Waste Management) and is proudly serving his community in Indianapolis, Indiana. Through hard work and determination, Littlejohn has been able to work his way up in WM in just five short years. Now he’s helping the company work through one of the bigger acquisitions that WM has made over the last few years.

WM’s acquisitions and large investments into recycling and renewable natural gas are making a big difference in the industry when it comes to combating wishcycling and paving the way for sustainability. Littlejohn is also excited to work with the Indy 500 on a WM event, much like the WM Phoenix Open, to push forward a new partnership and bring the conversation of sustainability to a bigger audience, while maintaining a sustainable event.

For Littlejohn, winning a 40 Under 40 award was exciting and gave him a feeling of being recognized in the industry, especially only having five years of experience under his belt. But Littlejohn isn’t taking the award lightly or losing focus because of it, if anything, he says, he’s going to continue to work hard and give this job everything he’s got.
