California Bill Would Make EV Battery Producers Responsible for Recycling, End-of-Life Management

A California bill is headed to vote very soon, and if it is signed into law, it would make electric vehicle battery producers responsible for the end-of-life management and recycling of their batteries.

A California bill is headed to vote very soon, and if it is signed into law, it would make electric vehicle battery producers responsible for the end-of-life management and recycling of their batteries.

The bill, SB 615, was approved by the Assembly Committee on Appropriations, moving to the floor for a vote.

“We all know that the EV market is massive, it has to grow,” said California Senator Ben Allen.

“We know how important it is for our climate goals, electrification, all the rest. We also know that there’s been some pretty problematic reports of sourcing for many of the component materials that go into EV batteries from all over the world, and we know that there is such an opportunity if we can create more coherence in the system.”
