Green Conversion Systems (GCS) acquires the Operating Agreement from Veolia for the Pinellas Energy from Waste (Waste to Energy) Facility in Tampa, Florida. December 11, 2012.  Green Conversion Systems (Rye, New York) has completed the aqcuisition of the operating contract for the largest mass burn Energy from Waste Facility in the United States from Veolia North America, which is owned by Veolia Environment (France).  The facility has the ability to process approximately 3,150 tons per day of Municipal Solid Waste and generates approximately 75 megawatts of electricity for sale to Progress Energy, a unit of Duke Energy Corp.  Thomas (Tommy) Murphy, with twenty six years of experience in the Energy from Waste field, will transition from Veolia to join GCS as the President of both the Operating and Business Development divisions.  Murphy's goal, in joining the senior GCS team led by founder and Chief Executive Officer Marc McMenamin, will be to grow both business units.  McMenamin notes that many operating contracts for existing Waste facilities are coming up for renewal - creating bidding opportunities for GCS.  McMenamin further stated that GCS foresees a myriad of new project development opportunities in North America.  Murphy will strengthen a seasoned and talented GCS team with his knowledge, deep industry relationships and leadership skills.  Green Conversion Systems is a privately owned developer and now operator of energy from waste facilities in North America and the Caribbean.  GCS was founded in 2008 and is the exclusive North American technology partner of Fisia Babcock (FBE), headquartered in Germany.  The City of Los Angeles recently selected GCS from among thirteen competing proposers to build a commercial-scale facility.  The Los Angeles review process concluded that the GCS project will "set a new standard" for environmental performance of Energy from Waste projects in North America.
