A ribbon cutting is slated to happen this week to open an $800 million metal recycling plant in Augusta, Ga.

Georgia Gov. Brian P. Kemp and first lady Marty Kemp will join Toralf Haag, CEO of Aurubis AG, and other local officials on Friday to welcome the new recycling plant. The Aurubis Richmond plant will provide 200 jobs for the area and process 180,000 tons of complex recycling materials annually. According to Aurubis, the plant is the first multi-metal recycling facility of its kind in the United States.

While there are other copper smelting facilities in the U.S., each only smelts copper that is directly mined. The Aurubis facility in Augusta will smelt copper harvested from items such as piping, motors, and computers.
