Chesapeake Council Adds Curbside Recycling to November Ballot

Residents of Chesapeake, Va. have been vocal ever since the city did away with curbside recycling a few years ago. Now, the city council is letting residents vote on the matter.

Residents of Chesapeake, Va. have been vocal ever since the city did away with curbside recycling a few years ago. Now, the city council is letting residents vote on the matter.

Chesapeake Council voted this week to create a referendum that will go on November’s ballot which will ask residents if they support bringing back a curbside recycling service with a $10 monthly fee. The referendum, however, is advisory and city leaders will consider the opinions of the residents but are not obligated to follow through.

Originally, the curbside recycling program was ended, and funds were redirected to funding a public safety pay plan.
