While household participation is on the rise in Dayton, Ohio’s recycling program, city data shows that recycling rates remain the same.

The city’s target recycling rate is 12%, but for several years, Dayton has been stuck at around 8%. Officials in Dayton hope that new technologies will bring the city new data to identify and target households with recycling bins that are not carrying their weight.

Tom Ritchie Jr., Dayton’s deputy director of public works, said that the city plans to send educational materials about recycling to Dayton neighborhoods with low recycling participation rates.
