East Lansing, Mich., Receives Grants from DEQ to Improve Recycling Programs

The city of East Lansing, Mich., has received more than $18,000 in grants from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to improve its recycling programs.
With the funds, the city will add more parrot green recycling containers to the city’s downtown sidewalks and community parks. The city will also create a Styrofoam recycling drop-off center to meet the request made by residents, and it will increase its recycling education efforts to help reduce contamination.

The City of East Lansing received more than $18,000 in grants from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to further its recycling programs.
A recycling infrastructure grant gave the city $14,760, and with additional funds from the city, around $20,000 will be spent to improve infrastructure, Environmental Services Administrator Cathy DeShambo said.
Part of that program will include increasing the “parrot green” recycling containers on the sidewalks of greater downtown East Lansing.
