The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management has awarded LanazaTech Global, Inc. a $3 million grant for CO2 recycling.

LanzaTech’s Project ADAPT plans to convert carbon dioxide into sustainable isopropanol, a chemical used in products such as cleaning agents. When produced from recycling CO2 rather than fossil fuels, the production process for isopropanol can potentially reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 200%.

Project ADAPT costs an estimated $3.8 million with approximately $0.8 million coming from company funding.

The funding from the US DOE is part of a larger, $29 million initiative to support carbon management projects.
