After various struggles with the Solid Waste Department of Las Vegas, Nev., Public Works Director Arnold Lopez has fixed ongoing issues following prior promises.

One of the key issues with residents was that the solid waste facility was only open three days a week. After stepping into the role of Solid Waste Director, Lopez has seen to it that the facility is open six days a week. Lopez has also arranged for a mechanic to bring waste vehicles up to industry standard to help transfer trash from Las Vegas facilities to the Wagon Mound Landfill.

“The first thing they asked me to do was to bring solid waste back up to a presentable standard,” Lopez said.

Lopez took over the role three months ago and has made positive improvements to Las Vegas’ waste program, noting the department has seen significantly fewer complaints since the beginning of summer.
