NASA has announced a two-phase competition, dubbed the LunaRecycle Challenge, to encourage innovative solutions for managing and recycling solid waste during long-term lunar missions.

The $3 million challenge focuses on creating systems to help reduce waste and improve sustainability in space environments.

Advanced technologies are required for the storing, processing, and recycling various waste streams during lunar missions. This competition focuses on the need for solutions to deal with the unique conditions of space but will also address environmental concerns on Earth.
