New Orleans Recycling Facility Experiences Second Fire in Two Weeks
Firefighters were battling flames for more than 15 hours.

The EMC Southern Recycling facility in the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans experienced its second fire in two weeks Sunday night. Firefighters were working to extinguish the flames for more than 15 hours, reporting the fire to be under control early Monday afternoon.
No injuries have been reported, and the fire’s cause is currently being investigated. The three-alarm fire raged as long as it did in part because of a lack of water supply, according to a press release from the New Orleans Fire Department.

At the peak of the blaze, Holmes said, there were 19 units and 56 personnel on the scene.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
A one-alarm fire was reported at the recycling plant two weeks earlier, on Feb. 25. Holmes said then the black smoke billowing from the fire was mainly coming from burning foam from the interior of scrapped cars.
Officials from Southern Recycling did not immediately return requests for comment Monday morning.
