Rumpke, Hefty ReNew Program Huge Hit with Cincinnati Residents

The Hefty ReNew program allowed Rumpke to accept additional flexible plastics for recycling in Cincinnati, Ohio and after a year, Rumpke says the program has been a huge success.

The Hefty ReNew program allowed Rumpke to accept additional flexible plastics for recycling in Cincinnati, Ohio and after a year, Rumpke says the program has been a huge success.

Residents are using orange Hefty ReNew bags to recycle lightweight materials like plastic films, straws, candy wrappers, foam takeout containers, and plastic bags. Previously, Rumpke’s recycling units could not accept these items because they did not have an end user to purchase the materials.

"We've seen nearly 10,000 people request starter kits through Hefty's online portal," says Molly Yeager, corporate communications manager with Rumpke.

"We've seen about 30,000 pounds. That's 15 tons of the filled orange bags processed through the plant, which is pretty amazing when you're talking about what's in those bags."
