Atlanta-based Rubicon Global has dubbed itself the “Uber of the waste and recycling industry,” but now a startup has launched in Sweden that is also being referred to as the “Uber for Garbage.”
Tiptapp, an app that pairs people who want to get rid of their garbage with people willing to dispose of the waste against payment, was formed in an effort to help the city combat its current crisis of having no waste collection due to a strike by waste collectors who are resisting pay cuts.

In the past week, a strike among waste collectors resisting pay cuts has resulted in mounting trash piles around the Swedish capital. There’s talk of a crisis situation, one that got worse today today as 65 collectors quit their jobs. All the rest have staged temporary walk-outs in solidarity.
With waste management left at the hands of the city’s inhabitants, a Swedish startup, Tiptapp, is seizing the opportunity full on.
Tiptapp’s solution could be considered an “Uber for garbage”. The company’s newly launched platform helps people who want to get rid of heavy duty garbage to find others who are willing to dispose of them against payment; typically people with leftover space in their car.
