Oakland, Calif., Officials Ramp Up Efforts to Cleanup Waste in San Francisco Bay

Last month, regulators in Oakland, Calif., threatened to levy fines if the city doesn’t do something about the amount of trash entering the San Francisco Bay and the city’s storm drains by July 1.
Now, City Council members held a meeting on Monday to discuss the budget for the cleanup of the bay. According to Council Member Rebecca Kaplan, the city wants to spend approximately $2.3 million over two years to hire crews and equipment to clean up illegal dumping hot spots.
