Organizations Work to Clean Up Waste Left Behind from Indy 500

The Indianapolis 500 took place this weekend, and as the event came to an end, the work to clean up the waste left behind on the track, bleachers and parking lot began.

Each year, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) has several volunteer groups that come in after the event to help with the cleanup, and to thank them for their efforts, the IMS donates money to every organization that volunteers.

This year, the organizations came across some unordinary waste during their cleanup efforts. Some of the items found include a couch, a kite, a large clementine box, a rug, a grill and a pair of shoes.

In the infield the day after the 101st running of the Indy500, the smell of beer wafts over the mangled aluminum skeletons that were tents just the day before.  

Smashed beer cans, trampled-on bags of chips, squashed coolers and half-eaten hot dogs stretch out across the soggy grass as far as the eye can see. 

The infield was deserted Monday morning, but the trash from the previous day's party remained.
