Victoria, Australia, Mayor Lisa Helps Posts Rallying Cry for Improved Waste Reduction Efforts on Facebook

Victoria, Australia, Mayor Lisa Helps recently reviewed the city’s waste diversion numbers, and although the city sends less material to landfill than it did five years ago, it could improve its numbers. On average, Victoria residents dispose of 51 kilograms per person of plastic every year, 75 kilograms per person of organics and 55 kilograms per person of paper and paperboard.
To spread the message that residents can divert more material from landfill, Helps posted a rallying cry for improved efforts on Facebook.
CBC News has more information:
My nine-year-old son gets his allowance once a week, and in return he has to take out the recycling.
It usually takes him a few trips, hauling a couple of baskets out from under the kitchen counter and then taking them outside.
And then, there's a lot of sorting to do.
