Washington, D.C. -- The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a safety advisory for fleet owners employing Monon dry freight van trailers. NHTSA has found that certain 1991-1992 trailers manufactured by the HPA Monon Corp., Monon, Ind., may be prone to cracking in the upper-middle coupler plate due to omitted welds in the flooring ribs. NHYA ads that a normal vehicle inspection would be unable to detect this condition while the cracks are in their early stages because inspectors would have to move a section of the trailer flooring in order to see them.
