EU Urges Member States to Speed up Recycling Goals; Officials Cite Jump in Packaging Materials Production as Reason

Strasbourg, France -- The European Parliament has passed a recycling bill, requiring member countries to double their minimum recycling goals by 2008. Recyclables include cans, plastic bottles and cardboard packages. European governments, however, are requesting four additional years to achieve recycling goals. The 15 EU nations must agree on the rules before they become law.
