Hauler Wins Awards: For Community Service

CANTON, OHIO - Painting schools and donating construction and demolition (C&D) removal for charity has gained R.C. Miller Refuse Service Inc., Canton, Ohio, much recognition in its community.

When R.C. truck drivers drove past the Henry S. Belden Elementary School, located just blocks from the company's facility, they noticed it was in need of repairs and maintenance. So, in an effort to support education and their community, the haulers "adopted" Belden, and encouraged other companies to follow their lead.

Volunteering time once a month, R.C. employees painted the interior of the school's three-story building. And, in May, Mary Hatchett, the school principal, awarded the company's efforts by presenting it with the Citizen/Educator of the Year award. "This company has generously and unselfishly committed itself to Belden School parents, staff and students," Hatchett said.

In addition to supporting education, the company has helped build over 50 houses by donating C&D removal to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Canton, an organization dedicated to eliminating poverty housing by building new homes through contributions.

R.C.'s removal service has accumulated to a monetary value of more than $30,000, which is the average price to build a Habitat Home. To show their appreciation, the charity presented the company with its Golden Hammer Award.
