WasteExpo 2000, held May 15-18 in Atlanta under the full management of Intertec Exhibitions, Stamford, Conn., was the best show in years, with attendance up in several categories, according to Group Show Director Rita Ugianskis.

Waste hauler attendance increased 54 percent, waste generator attendance increased 162 percent and overall show attendance increased 9 percent over last year, Ugianskis says.

WasteExpo, along with Waste Age magazine, was purchased from the Washington D.C.-based Environmental Industry Associations (EIA) in January 1999. WasteExpo 1999 took place in Dallas and was the final event organized by the EIA show management team. The EIA and Waste Age magazine, now based in Atlanta, are WasteExpo sponsors.

Among the show highlights were:

* More than 10 dot-com companies exhibited;

* 800 international buyers were present;

* A Buyers' Assistance Center was provided, where attendees could look for exhibitor and product information;

* Republic Services Inc.'s COO Jim Cosman was named The Great Race of WasteExpo 2000 Grand Champion; and

* The WasteExpo Grand Prize Wheel & Wheels of Fortune gave the attendees a chance to win a new Mercedes automobile or $35,000 in cash.

Following is a series of snapshots from a number of the activities at this year's Expo.
