Mexico City -- The Environment Ministry of Mexico is planning to recycle 35 percent of the country’s polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles. The ministry estimates that 90 million bottles (of 9 billion produced mainly for soft drinks) per year are discarded as trash and often end up as litter. The soft drink industry in Mexico has offered an initial investment of 50 million pesos.
