Oregon Offers Study Money to Local Governments

Portland, Ore. -- The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is offering solid waste reduction, recycling and household hazardous waste grants to local governments throughout the state. The grants are funded by fees charged at state landfills, and this year’s grant focus is on commercial waste prevention and reuse. DEQ says commercial waste originates from stores, offices, restaurants, schools, hospitals and other non-manufacturing entities. Preference will be given to projects that have measurable results. Any Oregon city, county, tribe, sanitary district or metropolitan service district may apply. DEQ expects to have up to $225,000 for focus area and general solid waste grants and up to $300,000 for household hazardous waste grants. The application will be available Monday, June 16 at
