Waste Connections Reportedly Considering Headquarters Move
Waste Connections Inc. is considering moving its headquarters out of California, according to a local business publication.
The Folsom-based company, with 2010 sales of $1.32 billion, has gotten proposals from Texas and Nevada, according to the Sacramento Business Journal.
Ron Mittelstaedt, chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of the company, said California has become too difficult of a state in which to operate because of a legislative and regulatory climate unfriendly to business. The company does business in 31 states.
“For good or for bad, we see how 30 other states treat businesses, and California is so far below 30 you can’t even see 30 from here,” he said.
Worthing Jackman, chief financial officer of the company, declined to comment on the story, which ran in early September.
In the article Mittelstaedt said the California legislature “is bought and paid for by labor interests and environmental groups.”
A California native, he said he would prefer to keep Waste Connections based in his home state.
The company employs more than 5,500 people, with 120 of them at the Folsom headquarters.
