Houston -- Waste Management Inc. (WMI) has been named winner of the

CIO

100 Award, which honors a company excelling in a specific aspect of business.

CIO

magazine says WMI took home the prize this year because the company continued to generate value with limited IT resources. Among other examples, WMI cites its use of distance learning rather than instructor-led training courses, which it says has cut training costs per unit by 50 percent.
