In response to a number of complaints over the high cost of the new RecycLA program, the Los Angeles City Council has voted in favor of studying the possibility of allowing businesses to share waste bins. This concept would reduce costs for some businesses.
Since the RecycLA program launched last month, some businesses have claimed that their fees have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled while the quality of service has decreased. In addition, the businesses are blaming the required set of individual bins per business is to blame for the increase in costs.

In response to widespread anger and complaints over the soaring cost of the new RecycLA program, the Los Angeles City Council voted Wednesday to study the possibility of allowing businesses to share waste bins.
The motion was approved with a vote of 11-0 and authorized the Bureau of Sanitation to report on the feasibility of the bin sharing option as a way to reduce costs for some businesses.
Councilman Mitchell Englander, a co-author of the motion, said he had spoken to two waste collection providers and they both were supportive of the idea.
