In response to an increase in trash and recyclables, Gaston County, Texas, is constructing a new cell at its landfill, which will come at a price tag of approximately $3.7 million. The new cell will take up about 11 acres of the landfill property, spanning 313 acres total.
Triangle Grading and Paving of Burlington will be in charge of the project, which is slated to begin in November.
Gaston Gazette has more information:
Gaston County has been producing more and more of the stuff most people don't want to deal with or think about.
That uptick in garbage and recyclables has been a trend for some time now at the Gaston County Landfill north of Dallas. And it will soon necessitate construction of a new cell at the dumping ground that will cost the county as much as $3.7 million.
"It's not an expansion of property," said Gaston County Public Works Director Ray Maxwell. "It's more of a routine landfill cell construction that we tend to do every four or five years."
