The Kent County, Mich., Recycling and Education Center recently shut down for nearly three weeks to undergo a $1.5 million upgrade. With the upgrade, the center added new equipment to mechanically sort paper cartons and corrugated cardboard.
This upgrade follows the center’s recent update to its education space, which now features new video and audio technology that gives employees, volunteers, community members and school groups an in-depth look at the county’s recycling program and how materials are sorted and processed every day.

Residents will be able submit paper recyclable materials to the Kent County Recycling Center starting Monday.
Kent County began a planned facility outage on Nov. 28 to install new equipment to mechanically sort paper cartons and corrugated cardboard -- an effort to keep up with the community's growing recycling needs. The upgrades amounted to a $1.5 million investment in the facility, according to a press release from the Department of Public Works.
