Sims Recycling Solutions Canada has started up a new electronics recycling facility in Laval, Quebec.

The Canadian unit of the Chicago-based Sims said in a news release that the new 55,000-sq.-ft. facility in the greater Montreal area will help meet new waste electronic and electrical equipment (WEEE) stewardship regulations implemented by Quebec last July.

Sims said the facility in Quebec, a province which has 24 percent of Canada’s population, joins two sites operating in Ontario and one in British Columbia to serve the Canadian market.

“If Quebec’s volumes reflect those other provinces driven by similar regulations, we can expect at least 25,000 metric tons of WEE to be recycled in Quebec over the next year,” said Cindy Coutts, president of Sims Recycling Solutions Canada.
